Martin Kundig papers, 1827-1848

Detroit priest who set up a hospital during cholera epidemic of 1834; interested in aiding the poor. Letters are written to his parents in Switzerland.

A native of Switzerland, who came to America in 1828, and finished his studies for the priesthood in Bardstown, Ky. After a few years in Cincinnati, in 1833 he came to Detroit where he remained 9 years. During the cholera epidemic of 1834 he established a hospital, and later did much for poor relief.
